USERS QUESTIONS

  •  Subscriptions
    • Why subscribe
Subscribing to a Publisher gives you exclusive access to private content being posted by that Publisher and gives you access to be able to communicate with them directly via the direct messages interface (DM).

      Lookhu releases new features regularly.

  • How to subscribe
  • Add a valid credit card to your account
  • Click “Follow” on the profile you wish to subscribe to
  • Clicking “Follow” will charge your credit card or Wallet Credits
  • Clicking “Follow” on a free account will not charge your credit card or Wallet Credits
  • A completed Follow will instantly unlock the content in that profile including all previous posts and all future posts during the subscription period
  • Subscription periods are one calendar month from the date of purchase

    Finding a profile

There are two search functionalities available.

  1. Once you have subscribed to an account, paid or free, and have an interaction with a model, a search icon will appear on your Home page.
  2. If you know the exact username of the person you are looking for, you can find them by going to https://lookhu.com//
  • Free trials

Free trial subscriptions have auto-renew disabled by default. If a Publisher offers a free trial, you will not be automatically billed when the free trial expires. To follow the Publisher, please manually enable auto-renew or follow that Publisher after the free trial expires.

  • I’m unable to subscribe to an account

In order to successfully subscribe to a Publisher account, the following must be completed:

  • Verify your email
  • Use an up-to-date web browser
  • Link a valid credit card in your account.
  • I cannot find my subscription

Please ensure that you have not mistakenly created a second account. Sometimes registering with Twitter and then creating an account using your email address may create two accounts.

  • “This page is not available” help

Some Publishers block access to certain countries, states, IP addresses, or Users. If you see this message, you will not have access to this Publisher’s account.

  • Cancel a subscription
  • Subscriptions are non-refundable.
  • Turning off auto-renew prevents you from being billed the following month if you no longer wish to subscribe.
  • You can turn off auto-renew for a subscription at any time. You will still be billed for the full subscription, and you will have access to the Publisher’s profile until the end of the subscription.
  • Visit your “Following” page to see all of your active and inactive subscriptions. You can unsubscribe if you would like to hide that Publisher’s posts from your Feed (unsubscribing does not refund your purchase).
  • You will be able to Follow that profile again during the Subscription period without being re-billed.
  • Auto-renewal subscriptions

Subscriptions are set to auto-renew by default. Free trial subscriptions are not set to auto-renew by default.
Subscriptions may not auto-renew if:

  • Your credit card was declined
  • If the subscription price has increased
  • Auto-renew was disabled by you.

Please review your account, make sure you have a valid credit card added and try to subscribe again.

  • Refunds

Purchases are final and non-refundable. You may unsubscribe for any reason, at any time, to ensure that you will not be billed for that subscription again.

  • Chargebacks / Credit Card Disputes

If a User seeks a chargeback or dispute from their credit card company, the User’s access to Lookhu may be discontinued or limited. If you believe your account has been limited in error, please contact support.

Any amounts that Users seek to refund or chargeback will be reported to the Publisher and will be removed from the Publisher’s income.

  • My chat disappeared

Please be informed that all the chats with Publishers where no payments have been made will disappear from your conversation list once your subscription is expired. In order for chat to remain in a read-only mode – you have to purchase the content through Pay Per View (PPV). Please take into account that all tips are voluntary contributions and not considered as a payment. Therefore those chats where no payments (PPV) made but tipped only – will disappear after expiration also.

  • Discounted and promotional subscriptions

Publishers can offer various discounts to their Users:

  1. Free trial subscriptions– the Publisher has set the discount to a 100% discount for the first billing period. In order for the subscription to renew, the User must sign up for the subscription. It will not auto-renew by default unless the User confirms that they want to renew for the subscription price.
  1. Discounted subscriptions– the Publisher has a profile promotion campaign. A Publisher can set a discount for their monthly subscription. Once the promotional billing period has ended, the subscriptions are set to auto-renew by default. The discounted price is eligible for the first billing period only.

The % reduction is based on a Publishers regular monthly subscription price. The lowest promotional price that can be offered is $3. So for example, if a monthly subscription price is $10, the Publisher can offer a maximum of a 70% discount. If a monthly subscription is $30, the Publisher can offer a maximum of a 90% discount.

In either case, once the billing period with the promotional amount is over, the subscription price reverts to the full price subscription.

  1. Personal subscription discounts– the Publisher can offer personal discounts to specific Users. A Publisher can select a discount percentage (5-40%) and duration (1-12 months) for any individual User to offer a special personal discount. For any active subscription – the newly personally discounted amount will be charged when the new billing period starts.

Adding funds to your wallet allows you to subscribe to any user, send tips or unlock paid messages without making a credit card transaction every time. Your wallet balance will be used by default as long as it is sufficient for the attempted purchase (or subscription auto-renew). Purchases can not be divided. If the purchase you are attempting to make is larger than your wallet balance, your connected card will be charged the full amount. Wallet Credit transactions are instant and easy to use. There is no wait time in processing new transactions.

  • Wallet Refunds

We are only able to refund a full unused wallet credits purchase transaction. If a User has already spent part of the Wallet Credits, as per the Lookhu Terms of Service, all subscriptions and purchases are final and non-refundable.

  • Value Added Tax
    • What is Valued Added Tax (EU/UK VAT)

Value Added Tax is a consumption tax added to the value of goods or services purchased in the European Union and United Kingdom. The specific rate of tax varies by country. As the name suggests, the tax is added to the price of the product or service at the time of purchase and paid directly to the relevant tax authority.

  • Why has Lookhu started adding VAT to purchases

Due to a recent interpretation of an EU law by HMRC, we have implemented changes to the treatment of User payments from 1st of July 2020. All VAT collected from Users is paid directly to the relevant tax authorities. This change only affects Users resident in countries within the UK/EU.

  • What has changed exactly

Lookhu now collects VAT on sales to UK/EU based on User location and passes this directly on to the relevant tax authority. The cost of any interaction with Publishers is therefore increasing, with the amount payable determined by the country where the purchase takes place. Lookhu then pays this sum directly to the relevant tax authority, in full.

  • When are these changes effective

Lookhu changed its policy on the collection of VAT on the 1st of July 2020 for UK and the EU.

  • How much VAT do I have to pay?

The amount payable is determined by the country where the purchase takes place. You can find the relevant rate in the table below (this list is not exhaustive and is correct at as of 15 August 2020).

*Note: The VAT rate percentages listed above are based on information provided by the European CommissionSince tax laws and rates vary from country to country, the amount will be different for different Users. The money that Lookhu collects as a result of these laws will be paid directly to local governments.

  • Do all users have to pay VAT?

Any purchase by a User resident in a country which charges VAT will be subject to the local rate.

  • Does Vat apply to all content on Lookhu?

VAT is applied to any payment for Publisher interaction by a User resident in a country which charges VAT.

  • How does Lookhu handle VAT?

All VAT collected by Lookhu is paid directly to the relevant tax authority, in full.

  • Why has the price of my subscription gone up?

The price of subscriptions can change from time to time depending on the Publisher.

On 1st of July 2021 Lookhu changed its policy on the collection of VAT in the UK and EU. As a result, pricing in countries where VAT is levied has increased by the relevant VAT rate, which is added to the cost of the subscription.

The rate of VAT levied by governments also changes from time to time and may be a factor in the event that we have to make changes to pricing in the future.

  • Are tips also liable for VAT?

To ensure complete adherence with regulations, at the current time Lookhu’ policy is to collect VAT on all payments made on its sites by a User resident in a country which charges VAT.

We keep all of our payment methods and policies under review and will advise if this changes.

  • How can I find out how much VAT I pay?

If you are a User in a country where VAT is applicable, you will see an additional line item when making your purchase.

We list the amount of VAT added to applicable payments in your Account. The following table provides the VAT rate that each country requires (this list is not exhaustive and is correct at as of 15 August 2020).

  • USA Sales Tax
    • USA Sales Tax Information

Please note: This notice covers our sales tax requirements on User payments from within the USA. If you are a User located in the EU, see the help topic for the application of VAT to your payments.

Beginning January 4, 2021, Lookhu will add sales tax to some User Payments made in the USA.

Recently, many states have passed laws that require “online marketplaces” to apply sales tax to transactions. Originally aimed at larger streaming services, the way these laws were written and the way they are being interpreted means that they are impacting many different types of companies, including Lookhu.

Whether or not sales tax is applied to your User Payment depends on where you are located and the type of Payment being made. Not all states require sales tax to be charged on transactions, and not all Payment types will be taxable.

If Sales tax is charged in your location, you will see an additional line item on your receipt for sales tax. Each state which requires Sales Tax to be charged will apply their own rate. The Sales Tax collected by Lookhu will be paid directly to your local government.

  • Why is Sales Tax being applied to online content?

Some US States are including digital content (both downloadable and streamed) within the definition of a taxable item.

  • Will tips be affected?

In many states, a payment of a Tip to a Publisher is not considered taxable. Other Payment types (Subscriptions/Messages/Streaming) are linked to digital content and are included in the definition of taxable goods.

  • How much will I be charged in Sales Tax?

The Sales Tax Rate depends on the state a User is located. The digital content rates range between 4% – 11%. Lookhu partners with sales tax experts to ensure the rates being charged are accurate and up-to-date for each particular locality.

  • If my state doesn’t charge tax, could this change?

Yes. Tax on digital content is steadily being implemented globally and it is likely that states which currently do not charge tax on digital content, will commence doing so in the future. Lookhu will constantly review rate changes and keep our Users updated.

  • Australia GST

Please note: This notice covers our sales tax (GST) requirements on payments made by Users based in Australia. If you are a User based outside of Australia please check the help topics for any sales tax charges specific to your country.

Recently many countries have passed laws that require “online marketplaces” to apply sales tax to transactions. Originally aimed at larger streaming services, the way these laws were written and the way they are being interpreted means that they are impacting many different types of companies, including Lookhu.

November 16, 2020: Lookhu will add GST to some Australian User Payments.

If GST is charged on your payment, you will see an additional line item on your receipt for GST.The GST collected by Lookhu will be paid directly to your local government. There are no additional charges on this element of the payment.

Why is GST being applied to online content?

Australian law applies GST to any payment made in connection with ‘any form of supply whatsoever’, this includes digital content.

What payments will be affected?

Payments made by Australian Users to Australian Content Publishers will NOT have GST applied to them. Only payments made by Australian Users to Content Publishers based outside of Australia will have GST applied, depending on the type of transaction.

Under Australian law, GST would not apply to any payment made that is NOT in connection with a supply of anything. In other words, gratuitous tips paid by an Australian User to Content Publishers based outside Australia will NOT have GST applied.

How much will I be charged in GST?

If your payment is subject to GST, it will be charged at 10%.

Your payout request may not be processed if there is an info mismatch in your account. You may need to re-add your bank account details (or debit card for OCT payments) to your account in the banking section and make sure you enter the correct details: Payments

  • My Current Balance is above the withdrawal minimum but payout is unavailable

If your bank information is correct, it’s possible that your W-9 was filled out incorrectly. Please verify that Box #6 on your W-9 form contains your city, state, and ZIP.

Otherwise, your payouts may have been paused because your account was suspected of fraudulent activity or was suspected to be in violation of our Terms of Service. Contact Support to resolve the issue and resume payouts.

  • OCT Payments

Original Credit Transaction (OCT) is a payment method that enables direct transfers of funds to credit card users (only available to Publishers outside the US).

If you encounter the following error message:

“We have been unable to process your payout due to the following reason: Please use another card or try to withdraw in 12 hours. Choose a different payout method if the problem persists.”

  • Try adding another payment card as it is possible that your current card does not support Direct Transfer (OCT) payments.
  • Try requesting again after 12 hours.

How much of the payout do I receive?

The amount that you see in your current balance is the exact amount in USD that will be sent to your payment method of choice. Your bank may charge you currency conversion or transfer fees to receive the money. Additionally, your e-wallet company may charge you a fee for accessing the money. Payouts go out in USD and will be converted to the currency of your account. Lookhu does not have control over currency exchange rates imposed by your bank.

  • S. Publishers Tax Form

Publishers in the United States will receive an IRS Form 1099 if they have earned and withdrawn more than $600 USD in the previous tax year. The 1099 form will be sent in the mail to the address on your W-9 form. If your address changes, be sure to update your W-9 form with the new address to ensure you receive your tax documents. A digital copy of your 1099 form can be downloaded from your Banking page.

  • Value Added Tax
    • What is Value Added Tax (EU/UK VAT)

Value Added Tax is a consumption tax added to the value of goods or services purchased in the European Union and United Kingdom. The specific rate of tax varies by country. As the name suggests the tax is added to the price of the product or service at the time of purchase and paid directly to the relevant tax authority.

  • What has changed?

In accordance with European Union rules on how VAT is calculated on payments made by Users, the collection of VAT from customers is paid directly to the relevant tax authorities. Regardless of where the Publisher or User is based, the 75/25 earning split between Publisher and Lookhu is protected.

This change will only affect payments made by Users who are resident in a country which charges VAT.

  • When did these changes come into effect?

Lookhu changed its policy on the collection of VAT on the 1st of July 2020 for the UK and the EU.

  • How does Lookhu handle VAT

All VAT collected by Lookhu is paid directly to the relevant tax authority, in full.

  • Is Lookhu now taking more money over and above the 25% fee?

No. All VAT collected by Lookhu is paid directly to the relevant tax authority, in full. These changes have been introduced to protect the 75/25 earning split between Publishers and Lookhu.

  • Will this change affect me?

Any purchase by one of your Users residents in a country which charges VAT will be subject to VAT at the local rate. This will be added to the cost of any payment for interaction that they make on Lookhu.

Specific guidance on how the changes may affect you is determined by your place of residency and VAT status. This is addressed and is covered in the below questions.

We recommend you seek professional advice to ensure you are compliant with your local rules based on your individual circumstances.

  • Whose responsibility is it to pay the VAT?

Following our change in VAT treatment implemented on 1st of July 2020, Lookhu is responsible for the collection of VAT where applicable, in respect of payments from Users.

The payment of VAT to tax authorities depends on your VAT tax registration status as outlined in the below question.

  • Does this change my relationship with my Users?

All forms of interaction with your Users remain the same.

For the purposes of VAT only, Publishers with Users in the UK and EU are deemed to provide their services to Lookhu rather than Users directly.

  • What does this mean for me?

If you are a Publisher resident outside of the UK, Lookhu will collect the required VAT on sales to the UK/EU based Users and pass this directly on to the relevant tax authorities. There is nothing else to do at this time. However, we recommend you seek professional advice to ensure you are compliant with your local rules based on your individual circumstances.

If you are a Publisher resident in the UK, it depends on whether or not you are registered for VAT.

The following guidance from HMRC explains when you are required to register for VAT https://www.gov.uk/vat-registration/when-to-register. For clarity, your Earnings (75% of Users payment) is classed as “VAT Taxable Turnover” as referred to in the guidance article.

If your earnings do not exceed the VAT Threshold explained in the guidance article, and you are not registered for VAT, then Lookhu will collect the required VAT on the sales to the UK/EU based Users and directly pass on to the relevant tax authorities. We recommend seeking professional advice to ensure you are compliant with your local rules based on your individual circumstances.

See image below for a detailed example of how VAT will be handled for Publishers who are not registered for VAT

If you are resident in the UK and registered for VAT, we ask that you please provide us with your valid VAT number and confirm acceptance of the self-billing agreement.  We can then raise invoices for you, which you will find on the ‘Bank’ section of your profile.

You will then be deemed to be charging Lookhu your Earnings figure (75% of Users payment) + VAT at 20%. This VAT element that is deemed to be added to your earnings will be paid to you monthly on a separate payment outside of your regular earnings, once internal verification procedures are completed. There will be a downloadable VAT statement supporting this amount which you can use to complete your VAT return and remit the VAT amount (which is paid to you by Lookhu each month) directly to HMRC.

See below for a detailed example of how VAT will be handled for UK VAT registered Publishers who have provided a valid VAT number. This results in all required VAT being paid on User payments to HMRC whilst protecting the 75/25 earning model.

  • What information do I need to provide to receive payment for the VAT element?

For Earnings in July / August / September 2020, you will need to send a monthly invoice to Fenix International Limited. The invoice needs to show your Earnings figure for the month and have VAT applied at 20%. For Earnings after 1st October 2020 we will be generating the invoice for you and it will be available on the Lookhu Platform.

We will be carrying out additional verification procedures before processing the VAT payments. In order to receive the payment, Publishers will need to email proof of their VAT filing to vat@Lookhu.com. This will be checked to ensure the VAT element on Lookhu Earnings is being declared to HMRC. Once checked, the payment will be released.

  • Is there a chance that this policy will change again?

Like all businesses, we constantly review the relevant regulatory requirements of the countries in which we operate.

  • Who can I contact if I have further questions?

We hope that the information included in this FAQ has been helpful. If you have any additional questions on the subject of VAT, you can contact us at vat@Lookhu.com.
